Matthew Alexander Nixon has worked in finance since 2002 with industry stalwarts like BlackRock, State Street and BNY Mellon. After graduating from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri with a Bachelor of Science in accounting and finance (and a minor in history), he joined State Street Bank & Trust in Kansas City as a fund accountant. Since then his career has brought him to live and work in countries like Ireland (Kilkenny), Australia (Sydney) then back to the US in an expatriate role in Sacramento, California before embarking on his Asian adventures in China (Hangzhou) and finally to Singapore in early 2011.

In late 2021, he was appointed regional client experience manager at BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager. In 2024, Matthew joined Singapore based Keppel Ltd, in its fund and investment management division supporting the private fund’s fundraising and investor relations team.
Since leaving Keppel, Matthew has been the director of business development and sales for Hedgtrade, a quant research/market intelligence platform that uses AI algorithmic predictive analytics.
He is a licensed finance professional in Singapore, recognised by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). You can read more about his credentials and career achievements on his LinkedIn page.
On a mission to empower people to make sense of their finances and feel confident about their money choices, Matthew shares his expert knowledge on a weekly segment called “Financial Literacy 1-on-ONE” on The Morning Drive with The Flying Dutchman and Lavinia Tan, every Wednesday 8am (October – December 2025) on ONE FM 91.3.
Matthew hails from a family of finance professionals. His father is an accountant while his grandfather founded Nixon and Lindstrom Insurance in his hometown, Springfield Missouri. From them, he learned that while you may strive to earn a living, you should never work for money — money should work for you. More than a means to an end, money is a reflection of the principles and ethics you uphold, a tool to create the freedom to focus on what truly matters and the legacy we leave behind. It is these roots and upbringing that motivate him to help others achieve long-term security and peace of mind for themselves and their loved ones.
A proud Singapore permanent resident since 2020 after marrying media personality and coach, Cheryl Miles, in 2018, Matthew’s favourite local dishes include kway chap, bak kut teh, roti prata and his wife’s Eurasian Devil’s Curry which you can find in her cookbook. An avid fan of American football and baseball, he supports his home teams Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals (the inspiration for his website colours).
In his free time, Matthew enjoys weight training and fishing — activities that reflect the same principles he applies to personal finance. Just like progress in the gym and waiting for a big catch require consistency, patience and changing up your routine to get the best results, Matthew believes discipline, diversifying your investments and diligence are essential for building a strong, secure, and stress-free financial future.
Through this platform, he shares insights and strategies to help you cast your financial fishing line so you can chart your budget, anchor your savings, tackle debt, lure in future returns and hook socially responsible investments that align with your values and goals. An advocate for ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) Investing, Matthew believes that when your money reflects both what you know and what you believe in, you’re more likely to stay committed, think long-term, and feel assured that your money makes a positive impact for both you and those around you.
